Presentation eBook of Worldchildren on Europeday may 9th 2007

 

On Europeday - wednesday may 9th 2007, Mr. C. Brederveld - European eTwinning Ambassador will present an eBook of children and young people with "physical limits” to Mayor A.E. Koopmanschap (MA) from Diemen, municipality and town in the Netherlands, near Amsterdam

 

The eBook is a result of cooperation with children & youngsters around the world – hospitalized or homebounded by longterm illness or handicap. The meaning of the presentation is: giving attention for webbased education to this group of students & the work and comittment of teachers & volunteers involved.

 

Macadam webeducation is bringing the world to the students in bed, but now – the children & students are bringing their webwork to the world.

 

The eBook will be presented, may 9th -16.00 hrs, to Mayor A.E. Koopmanschap in the Public Library of Diemen. Followed by a short presentation by Greet Meesen - initiator of the project. The press is very welcome to take part in the celebration. Macadam WebStudio is a private initiative by Greet Meesen from Diemen. At the age of two years she became partly paralyzed by polio (1952 – no vaccination back than) during childhood and adolescent she stayed long periodes in hospital, undergoing treatment. After an active life as teacher she had to give up her work – aged 38 yrs, was homebounded again and founded in 1998 The Macadam Web Studio, a volunteer organization. It provides online teaching and e-counselling to young bed-bound patients and their teachers and attendants. In addition, the Macadam Web Studio offers help with the starting up of e-projects, and supports teachers with examples and adjusted web media, such as web posters, spoken letters, musical animations, e-books and e-cahiers, all with or without the use of hands.  In cooperation with teachers and volonteers the MixTalent-approach is developed.

Credentials

·          Greet Meesen is Guidance Counselor of the European eTwinning Project “MixTalent-Troubadours”, which involves hospital schools and special educational institutions in Belgium, Greece, Israel, Poland, The Netherlands, The Czech Republic, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States. In March 2007 the Greek Department of Education designated this project the most outstanding web project for special education.

·          Macadam is a member of the MyEurope SchoolsNetwork of the European Union.

·          Macadam is an International Liaison organization for Bearable Times: The Kids Hospital Network, US.

·          Macadam is in the category ‘Ongoing Projects’ a member of Epals, US, a screened platform for professional teacher development.

·          Macadam also participates in Kavor, an independent Israeli distance learning organization for hospitalized students which involves 20 hospitals and includes both Israeli as well as Arab teachers.
